Overview

Education

These educational opportunities all have one thing in common: They will advance your skills, training and knowledge. Some are credit-bearing and applicable to degrees, while others finish with a certificate or industry credential relevant to your career. All of the courses are designed by academics at Rhode Island colleges and universities, often by the instructors who will teach the material in the classroom. Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, New England Institute of Technology, Johnson & Wales University, and Rhode Island School of Design Continuing Education have relationships with us and their courses have ranged from basic computer skills to management training to photography and graphic arts. Some of the courses strengthen existing skills or will introduce you to specialized subjects, such as learning to speak Spanish or getting certified in OSHA regulations. Woonsocket Education Center also partners with businesses, industry associations, job placement organizations, and higher education institutions to offer a variety of courses specific to a career path or new job openings. Some are pre-employment; some are for newly hired employees. Nearly all are free for the participant. The courses change frequently so please check back if you don’t see something that meets your needs today.

Workforce Training

Woonsocket Education Center provides a variety of courses specifically designed for earning a credential in a short-period of time. The courses are free unless noted. Job placement with employers who are hiring is also included for some trainings. For those who request assistance navigating through postsecondary education and training, we can offer help through our office’s RI Reconnect program.

We are able to offer trainings for free because of our partners, which include businesses, industry associations, job placement organizations, and higher education institutions who help choose the topics and design the coursework so it will help students be prepared for entry-level work in new careers.
